November was an exciting month for our lab at Nanyang Technological University Singapore! While COP29 Azerbaijan took place in Baku, our team engaged in parallel events, including AlterCOP, a remote alternative to the UN Climate Change COP29 Azerbaijan. This platform allowed global participants to stay informed about climate action in real-time without traveling large distances.
Emma Ramsay, a research fellow at our lab at NTU Asian School of the Environment and Earth Observatory of Singapore, took the lead to moderate a panel session under Resilience & Adaptation day at AlterCOP. The panel titled Singapore's direct and indirect exposure to climate change. How is Singapore building future resilience. brought together experts from government agencies, corporations, and academia to discuss Singapore’s climate preparedness.
Reflecting on her experience, Emma shared, “AlterCop has proven to be a really effective way to engage with climate challenges from the local and regional perspective. In our panel, we discussed everything from building with nature, the challenge of air-conditioning in Singapore, and the role of corporates. As a scientist, it was a really great opportunity to engage with other sectors working in the resilience and adaptation space. I hope it will act as a catalyst for us all to work more closely in the future.”
We are grateful for opportunities like AlterCOP that allow us to exchange ideas and collaborate with diverse stakeholders on pressing climate issues. As we continue our journey, we look forward to exploring innovative solutions and strengthening partnerships to drive meaningful change. Stay connected with us for the latest developments and insights from our team.
